CHAPTER 7

Davis Moore was set to commence her office duties the following week. Her skimpy gown was just so fitted on her body. Right before the huge mirror that reached to the top of the ceiling and the base of the room she stood, turned around in circles gazing. Too short...she whispered to herself.

She searched for another gown and after she'd worn it,she stood out again to gaze at her self. Yes better! She didn't have to look too beautiful after all there was no one now to be beautiful for.

She was in a hurry that morning as she didn't want to begin the new week with lateness. She grabbed her handbag and a file and was running down the steps when the doorbell rang. She paused and looked at the ceramic clock hung on the wall.

She started to move very slowly to the door. She demanded to know who was behind it but was greeted with an unfriendly silence. Anita was there at door, after she'd opened up,she looked so sorry and apologetic. She wasn't ready for all the drama so she simply said.

"I forgave you. Come on we're ladies." she said softly.

"Thank you."

"It's okay."

"Mr. Allan asked me to resume duties this week."

" How? I mean what did you tell him?"

"Nothing. The secretary called and informed me to report at his office and when I got there I was being told the good news."

"Wow.. but if he hadn't you wouldn't return to apologize."

"No one knew about your relationship with Richard. I found out late I wouldn't say it to you if I knew...."

"Oh! It's fine." She scratched her eyebrows and patted her on the back. "Well it was our decision. Get in the car we'll be late."

Davis Moore drove to work with Anita seated at the passenger seat. Mr. Allan wasn't at work yet so she was greatly pleased with her self. she had a lot to attend to on seeing her table with piles of files, she exhaled and moved into her swivel chair.

She was being observant, as soon as Mr. Allan walked by she went into his office to greet him and returned to hers after they've briefly exchanged pleasantries. That day he often passed stealthily by her office now and again looking franctically inside her office.

Was there something that she hasn't put in place or maybe he was checking her office office to know if she was truly the one seated on the chair, then she laughed. She checked her mailbox and ohh the meeting was set for 4pm and she would probably be returning home late.

She cleared her table of irrelevant papers, after she'd dumped them in the waste paper basket she went to check on her Boss but he was already away. She carried a sizeable carton of different folders and scripts out,she would probably be working all night. She turned on the ignition and made for St. Johns plaza.

After she arrived the rendezvous, she stopped to lean by the silvery rails that secured the entire surrounding and while she waited she dialed Anita's number for directions to the exact location where they were supposed to meet but Anita immediately shocked her.

... which meeting? I haven't gotten such information no one else has I guess. How did you hear that?...She was confused. At the same time,Mr. Allan clapped his hands behind her,she turned and faced him.

"What's going on?"

"Where?"

"Where are your employees?"

"On their way."

"Anita just said something contrary. This meeting is held only for me or what?" She tried to suppress her anger.

"I'm sorry Davis but I need your attention,I need to talk with you." She heaved and followed behind him to the table already set with numerous kinds of food, she just had to choose.

He stretched out to pull a chair for her but she resisted and rather choosed to do so for herself. She didn't touch the food, she simply sat and watched him eating with several thoughts roaming her head.

"Eat." He churned the food, before him was a plate of rice, fried steak,a bottle of wine and salad.

"I will, I'm still waiting for us to commence the meeting Mr. Allan."

"Alright Davie I.."

"Davie?" She laughed. "I'm sorry Mr. Allan you don't call me Davie."

"Well... Now I do. I heard you're broken up with Richard."

"Ohh!...." Surprise choked her words, she coughed and her wine spilled on the tablecloth. The wine glass rolled on the table and tumbled on the tiled floor, several eyes darted towards her.

"That's okay Davie." He got up and began to clean her up with his flannel. She looked at him in dismay and an undefined hate. She got up pushed off his hands and left the table in embarrassment.

After she'd got in her car,she mailed an apology to Mr. Allan and having pressed on the accelerator she zoomed off. That night on her bed, with eyes walking from the door to the ceiling and around the room to Pa. Moore's portrait. She was in thoughts, she was in wild thoughts.✍️
