CHAPTER 6

Mama Freda left very early in the morning after answering a phone call from the hospital's emergency unit.During the morning hours after breakfast, Melanie sat out with Estella and both were soon joined by Davis Moore.

They talked about returning to the police station to check on the progress the police had made in search of Pa. Moore. They initially had written a statement as directed by a certain sergeant and they were being interrogated individually as regards Pa. Moore's favorite location during leisure,it was the pub he loved to drink but he never got drunk once.

The sergeant had asked that they check back later in the week with Pa. Moore's wife, Mama Freda for further interrogations,he believed the wife would provide necessary informations about her husband that might be useful to the search team.

That breezy evening after Davis Moore's aunt had returned to her house. Mama Freda returned home with the news that Suzanne her friend would be arriving in no time. Davis Moore was busy in the kitchen preparing a special meal for Mrs. Suzanne.

Mama Freda sat by the pool using cleanser on her face, the makeup wasn't so deep so it was easier for her to finish up before she began talking to herself as usual

...but he was adviced a month ago to avoid alcoholics why would he do that to himself. The infection had eaten deep into him his eyes were like very ripe bananas so sad the mother was wailing and crying but I tried all I should so what could have stopped him from surviving....She slapped her forehead and camly listened to the sound of the car approaching their gate.

She got up straining her eyes as the huge vehicle with tinted glasses drove in. After the tall smiling man had stepped out she waited patiently for him. It was Mr Allan, Davis Moore's boss.

Mama Freda welcomed him and made him sit in the sunshade opposite the house. She went in to inform Davis Moore and after she came out she excused herself and gave them some privacy. She was before him wondering what he came for,was it to check how sick she really was? Or if she'd deceived him? Or something was amidst at the office..she stood there sheepishly watching him and Mr Allan too seemed dumb.

"Davis?"

"Mr. Allan? Good day." She was afraid not knowing what to think of or what to expect of his unexpected visit.

"You're cheerful.. that's beautiful." His penetrating eyes were steadily fixed on her face. He stretched out his hands to her.

"Fruits, bread and dried fishes," he said "it will help you heal." He smiled.

"You're kind."

"There'll be a meeting tomorrow at St John's plaza, Don't be late. A Mail will be forwarded to you by me."

"Is Maureen sick?"

"No."

He started leaving for his car. She asked about Maureen because sending such mails was supposed to be her duty not Mr. Allan's. She narrowed her eyes and watched as he drove his car through the gate. Mr. Allan always cared, never demanded for too much, was always considerate and she knew this, his act of kindness wasn't strange to her except that she felt valued.

She turned around and saw Mama Freda right behind her at the door step, she comically walked towards her beeming with smiles.

"Are you really sick?" Her mother teased.

"No. Just a cough." She feigned a cough and passed into the house swaying her butts.

Mrs. Suzanne visited later in the evening. She was tall,a smiling happy soul and her fashion sense was outstanding.

...Hmmm... she pulled the spoon from her mouth and kept churning the food particles in her mouth with closed eyes ...this is really nice if only I had a daughter too she would be cooking my meals this way..

She commended on Davis Moore's food,it was a tasty meal. Mama Freda seemed to be dabbing her eyes now and again all the while. After Mrs. Suzanne was done eating, she and Mama Freda had a long discussion into the night.

When she was leaving, Mama Freda's daughter suggested she slept over considering the hour of the night but she insisted on going as her house was just a mile away.

So she dreamt that night and saw her missing father,Pa Moore.✍️
